What’s Hot In The Kitchen – Other Than The Oven!
When it comes to home design trends, the kitchen more than any other room is the space that can look dated, and is consequently the room most often in need of renovating. At Evans Coghill, we strive to design kitchens that are timeless, while reflecting current trends.
The recent 2016 Builder Practices Survey, a national survey of homebuilders that captures valuable information on the product features included in new residential construction, offers an interesting look at what’s hot in kitchen trends right now.
Among the findings:
- 64% of the respondents said they have granite countertops
- 26% said their backsplashes are white
- 60% have wood, raised panel cabinetry
- 79% reported that their appliances are stainless steel
An accompanying Houzz survey asked homeowners about the colors in their kitchens, and 34% reported that white cabinets were their choice, followed by medium-toned wood finishes.
We asked Amy Alexander, owner of Ask Amy Interior Design, and our resident design expert here at Evans Coghill, for her thoughts are on the white kitchen trend. “White kitchens are great if they suit the personality of the homeowner,” she said. “White is classic, clean, and neutral, and still seems to be the most popular option. Design-wise, urban farmhouse is a very big look right now and white is easily incorporated with that. Softer grays or off whites have also been featured lately as well.”
And what about the other elements from the survey? “Most of the new homeowner buyers that I am working with are incorporating upgrades like raised paneling on the cabinet doors and wood accents,” she noted. “And while granite is always a popular choice, I am also seeing more quartz countertops as well.”
If you look through photos of our kitchens at Evans Coghill, you’ll see many of these features, along with classic design and superior craftsmanship. Our kitchens are designed to last – from the materials to the features and finishes. And in our opinion, that kind of resilience is one of the hottest trends of all!
