Get to know your Evans Coghill team members… Like Ed Boyd!
We’ve decided to start a series of blogs we’re calling “Who Built It?” These blogs will be a chance for you to learn a bit more about the incredible people who are building your new Evans Coghill home!
First up, Project Manager, Ed Boyd. As the Project Manager at Riverwalk, Ed takes a home from the salesperson, and handles everything from the foundation to closing. He builds the home, and takes care of the client, acting as a liaison as the building process takes place.
- What sparked your interest in home building?
I’ve been doing it all my life. My father was a shop teacher, and during summer breaks, he did projects for people. And I helped him. I had my own business for 12 years building houses in South Carolina.
- What brought you to Evans Coghill Homes?
As larger builders came into the market, I couldn’t compete with them. So I decided to join them! I was working for another builder, but I liked the way Evans Coghill Homes did things. I thought, “I’d really like to work for them one day.” Then the market fell apart, and I lost my job because no one was building. I went to work at another company, but ran into (ECH co-owner) Chris (Folk). Eventually, things worked out and they had a need for me. I’ve been with them for a year and a half. They are always stand-up guys and great people.
- What is your favorite / most satisfying part of your job?
I love dealing with the homeowners. I feel so honored that they trust me to build their house for them. I always want it to be a fun experience for them, so I try to keep things light hearted. I love Move-In Day. The biggest compliment I get is when they move into their home and they’re happy.
- What are the biggest changes you’ve seen over the years?
The biggest change in the last few years is in energy-efficiency. There are so many steps, so many things we have to do as part of the EFL program. We used to just put in some insulation and we were done!
I have a wife and two sons, so I try to spend my down time with them. One of my sons plays college football at East Carolina, so during the season you’ll find me going to the games. My other son loves hunting and fishing, so we spend time together doing that. I love to golf, too.
Fun Ed Fact #1: Last year, Ed’s son’s East Carolina football team beat Virginia Tech, the alma mater of ECH co-owner, Alan Banks! Needless to say, there’s been some boasting and teasing going on.
- What else do you want us to know?
Evans Coghill Homes is a family organization. Alan and Chris really take care of us, and we do our best for them. Everyone is top notch and it is a really great place to be.
- Ed loves his co-workers!
Randy Hill is awesome… Tara Davidson is THE sales leader in the area… and Will Thornburg handles warranty services and will be a great builder one day.
Fun Ed Fact#2: Ed, Will Thornburg and Chris Folk all went to Appalachian State University and Ed played football there, too!
