It’s easy to refresh outdoor spaces for the warmer weather. In fact, some are projects that can be done in a weekend or less! Not only will you expand your property’s livable space, but you’ll be adding to its value as well.

1. Create a picture-perfect porchGive your front porch some personality with architectural details such as columns and railings. Consider aesthetically pleasing brackets, spandrels, and corbels, too. And don’t forget to check out your porch ceiling – maybe new beaded-board panels are in order. Add a ceiling fan to create a comfortable outdoor living atmosphere.
   2. Enhance lighting

   Enhance your outdoor space so it can be enjoyed long after the sun sets. A few strategically placed lights add an element of safety and elegance. Make sure doorways, stairs and paths are properly lit. Solar lights are a popular and affordable option that can be placed virtually anywhere with minimal effort. Swap lighting fixtures for modern designs. A few strings of garden lights are always a nice way to enhance the ambience of the outdoors.

   3. Redo your doorA new front or back door – or even just a fresh coat of paint on the existing one – adds immediate appeal to your home’s facade. Weigh pros and cons of various materials such as wood, vinyl, fiberglass and metal, and then pick the one that suits your home’s style and your budget.
      4. Lush landscaping

      Add a splash of color and lushness by planting containers of plants & flowers. Or plant an herb garden – a few small containers with fresh herbs can make your deck smell wonderful. Plus, when cooking or grilling, natural flavors are just a few steps and snips away.

      5. Refresh furniture

         Replace any faded or dated cushions with new ones, or make slipcovers. For wicker or metal furniture, a few coats of spray paint can do wonders. You might be surprised how a new coat of white, black or even red paint can bring old patio furniture back to life.

         6. Dress up your garage

         Install a decorative architectural arbor above your garage door to de-emphasize a front-loaded garage. The structure adds personality and provides a place to grow climbing plants.
         

         7. Shuffle the deck

         Rearrange your deck or patio furniture. Move outdoor furniture into clusters to encourage relaxation and conversation. Make sure to leave main walkways open so guests can easily enter or exit the yard. Create an outdoor kitchen space in one corner of the deck so there is a section dedicated to cooking.
