"I Really Like This House..."

While swinging hammers on a Habitat for Humanity house, Evans Coghill Homes partners Alan Banks and Chris Folk built the foundation for their own homebuilding company.
Folk, a licensed general contractor building infill homes in Charlotte's most desirable neighborhoods, and Banks, a mechanical engineer who built a successful publishing business cornered on the homebuilding industry, strengthened their friendship during those days out in the hot sun and saw that their combined talents could sustain a superior company. Borrowing from their middle names, which happened to be their grandmother’s maiden names, Evans Coghill Homes was formed in 2002.
A decade later, Evans Coghill Homes has never strayed from its commitment to uncommon craftsmanship. Through peaks and valleys in the housing market, Evans Coghill has arrived as a mature enterprise offering homes of that emphasize what’s most important to buyers – smart use of space and comfortable gathering areas on a sensible budget. Evans Coghill Homes proves that combination of priorities sustains not only home building companies but families.
The pair makes the perfect team - combining Chris's construction and product knowledge expertise with Alan's business management, finance and marketing know-how. In 2013, Alan is sharing that experience, serving the 900-member Home Builders Association of Charlotte as president.

Getting the Home You Want
What truly make a house a home is how it fits the way the owner lives. Buyers no longer desire vast, seldom-used spaces, wine cellars or home theaters. Evans Coghill offers all new home plans drawn and designed for the buyer who values space where it’s used most in spacious family gathering areas, open, functional kitchens, plentiful storage and outdoor features that extend the living area. There’s no better example than the River Cottage home plan, which won the much sought after Best Custom Home of the Year in Charlotte’s Homearama 2011. Built in the neighborhoods of Springfield and the new Riverwalk on the shores of the Catawba River in Rock Hill, the 3,200-square-foot home has won regional and national awards for its kitchen and outdoor living areas.
In addition to the finest construction details, such as California corners, radiant heat barrier and low-e windows, the home offers "a functional and comfortable kitchen with space for cooking, friends, homework and fun, a must for a family that enjoys cooking and eating," says River Cottage homeowner Walt Bullard. "There’s just something about an Evans Coghill Home. You can just feel it when you walk through the door."

A Better Process Means a Satisfied Homeowner
Getting to the final product - a process much maligned by home buyers with other builders - in an organized and efficient way is of the utmost importance to Alan and Chris. Building upon best practices shared among like-minded builders across the country, Evans Coghill Homes developed a streamlined, web-based communications system for document sharing with skilled subcontractors and scheduling their work. A smoothly running operation, in turn, eliminates snags for home buyers, who enjoy quick and regular conversations about the status of their home. Conversations with clients are always supplemented with web updates and photographs of work in progress.

A Solid Foundation Holds Strong
As timeless as their designs, Evans Coghill Homes remains an enduring home building company providing lasting value to clients. The partnership that germinated on a job site ensuring that others would have a solid foundation has only strengthened over time. Evans Coghill Homes continues to give back, donating a portion of the profit from each home the build to Habitat for Humanity - the place where it all began.
